English Language Instruction (ELI)
-
English Language Instruction (ELI) offers a comprehensive language study program for English language learners seeking to improve their skills for academic success, professional advancement, and general enrichment. ELI courses (ELI 80 - 82 Intermediate - Advanced) prepare students to enter academic major programs at BCCC by developing necessary academic skills in reading, writing, grammar, listening, speaking, and note-taking. Courses are taught by ESL-trained instructors who concentrate on getting students ready for successful participation in U.S. higher education opportunities. ELI courses are offered during Fall (August - December), Spring (January - May), and Summer (June - August) semesters. Enrollment steps for new ELI students: - Students complete the college application and, if eligible for in-state tuition rates, a Residency Verification form.
- All new ELI students take the ACCUPLACER-ESL test to determine placement level. Students must place at Intermediate (ELI 80) level at least to enroll in ELI courses. ACCUPLACER ESL Sample Questions
- Students meet with an ELI advisor to select courses and register.
