    Program Description 

    This concentration is structured as preparation for those who expect to teach in the math and science areas. It is designed to address the transfer needs of students planning to attend a four-year college or university for Teacher Preparation, and who may not be eligible to complete the requirements of the A.A.T. degree. While this curriculum is designed to prepare students to prepare students to pursue a bachelor’s degree program at the college or university level, students are advised to check the requirements of the institution to which they intend to transfer.

Job Description

  • Upon completion of this program, students may apply for State License to work as a Paraprofessional in Local State Educational Agencies.  Paraprofessional/Teacher Assistants perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or parents.

    Serve in a position to assist a teacher. Teacher assistants work under a teacher’s supervision to give students additional attention and instruction. Teacher assistants work in public and private schools, childcare centers, and for religious organizations. About 4 in 10 worked part time in 2012. Most do not work during the summer.

Career Options and Occupation Outlook

    Students may also transfer to a four-year institution to take a BA degree in teaching Math or Science.

    The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that “Employment of teacher assistants is projected to grow 9 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Employment growth is expected due to increases in student enrollment in elementary and secondary schools as well as in childcare and preschool.”
