Program Description 

Upon completion of this program, students may apply for State License to work as a Paraprofessional in Local State Educational Agencies.  Paraprofessional/Teacher Assistants perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or parents.

Serve in a position to assist a teacher. Teacher assistants work under a teacher’s supervision to give students additional attention and instruction. Teacher assistants work in public and private schools, childcare centers, and for religious organizations. About 4 in 10 worked part time in 2012. Most do not work during the summer.

Upon completion of this program, students may apply for State License to work as a Paraprofessional in Local State Educational Agencies.  Paraprofessional / Teacher Assistants perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or parents. Serve in a position to assist a teacher.

Students may also transfer to a four-year institution to take a BA degree in teaching Math or Science.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that “Employment of teacher assistants is projected to grow 9 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Employment growth is expected due to increases in student enrollment in elementary and secondary schools as well as in childcare and preschool.”
