Program Description
At Baltimore City Community College, the Arts and Sciences Transfer-Theatre Performance (Area of Concentration) inspires, develops and transforms each emerging artist’s/student’s intellectual and creative attributes, which allows for optimal expression and exploration of performance styles. The course of study includes intensive training in acting, movement and vocal techniques, script analysis, character development, two levels of theatre history, examination of classical, modern, and contemporary dramatic literature, replication of selected theatrical conventions, scene work, and performance opportunities. At the end of the program, students may either transfer to another institution to continue their academic training or follow a more direct career path.
The Theatre Performance (AOC) is designed for students who wish to transfer to four-year institutions or begin their employment as entry-level actors. Other employment options include: voice over artists, artists in residence, acting coaches, directors, stage managers, theatre librarians, designers, and arts administrators. Employment projections for actors and performance artists from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics identify a 32% growth rate in the job market for 2020-2030, which is faster than expected.
