  • Update: November 15, 2024 

    The contractors continue to remove and replace old, outdated elevators with new state-of-the-art elevator cars in our buildings.  They are currently wrapping up the installation in the Physical Education Center and will schedule inspections with the State for commissioning within the next few weeks.  The next elevator scheduled for construction is in the Nursing Building.  The team will start construction on November 18, 2024, and will complete the installation in about 9 weeks.  We will keep you posted on progress and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.     Update: October 21, 2024 

    BCCC is one (1) of several Baltimore City Early Voting sites for the upcoming Presidential General Election.  Early voting is from October 24, 2024, ending October 31, 2024, at the South Pavilion.  Operating hours are from 7am to 7pm.  Additionally, the Dropbox located outside the Pavilion is now open to accept mail-in ballots.

    Update: October 18, 2024 

    Due to the placement of HVAC equipment on the LSB roof, we are restricting traffic from entering Loop Road past Lot A. To access Lot E, please proceed through Lot C. Please follow the directions of the Public Safety Officers, thanks!

    Update: October 14, 2024 

    The HVAC system in the NMB is currently undergoing a conversion from manual to automatic to accommodate the new chiller system upgrade.  Our HVAC techs and our contractor, Johnson Controls are working to ensure temperatures in all areas are regulated to the state approved level.  We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, please contact me directly if you require assistance.  Additionally, we are required by law to convert from air conditioning to heat on October 15, 2024, tomorrow.  Our techs are preparing the system for the conversion and will monitor temperatures throughout the buildings to ensure we make the necessary adjustments as this could cause unintentional temporary discomfort.

    Update: September 30, 2024 

    AT&T has reported that due to Sunday’s manhole fire that occurred in downtown Baltimore City, utilities and communications were impacted, causing systems to cease transmissions, resulting in the disruption of cell and landline telephone service. BGE is currently onsite making the necessary repairs that will enable the communications carriers to restore connections. Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated time when this work will be completed.  We will continue to monitor progress and provide updates, as necessary.

    Update: August 20, 2024 

    Starting tomorrow 8/21 through Friday, 8/23, from the hours of 8am until 11am, Loop Road will be partially blocked to allow the contractor working on the Life Science Building, (LSB) chiller/boiler system the opportunity to place new equipment on the roof, utilizing an industrial crane.  Those who need access to the parking area under LSB should enter the campus, keep straight through Lot C, pass the Physical Education Center, and enter through the back side of the parking area.  Public Safety will be onsite to assist.

    This is a reminder that all faculty, staff, and students are required to display their BCCC issued ID cards.  If you do not have an ID card, the Public Safety ID Booth is opened daily from 8am-5pm.  For service after hours, please request assistance from the Officer located in the Command Center, room 056.  Public Safety officers will start conducting random checks throughout all locations to ensure compliance.

    Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) prohibits the use of any product that emits smoke that could be inhaled by others, including marijuana and tobacco cigarettes, electronic smoking devices (used for vaping) or hookahs, in any enclosed place, including, but not limited to, all offices, classrooms, hallways, restrooms, meeting rooms, community areas, and performance venues. Smoking is also prohibited outdoors on all BCCC campus property, owned, or leased, including, but not limited to, parking lots, paths, fields, and sports/recreational areas, as well as in all vehicles while on property that is owned or leased by the College. This policy applies to all students, faculty, staff, and other persons on campus, regardless of the purpose of their visit. This policy shall be enforced by Public Safety. Students and employees that fail to comply with the smoke-free policy will be subject to progressive disciplinary action. Visitors that fail to comply with the smoke-free policy will be informed of the policy and requested to comply. Visitors that continue to violate the policy after verbal warning will be escorted off-campus.

    The Campus wide speed limit is 10 MPH.  Public Safety will issue the appropriate citation to those who operate any motorized vehicle on campus or any college property in an unsafe, unlawful manner.

    Update: June 15, 2024 

    The construction and installation of the new chiller system is underway and on schedule to be completed early fall. The next phase requires systems shutdown to install new water/pressure valves.  The impact to the building is air flow will be turned off and water flow to all boiler/chillers will cease. The air conditioning in LSB will cease to operate.  To ensure the health and safety of faculty, staff, and students, we will close and restrict access to LSB from June 24th through July 7th. Cabinet has been informed and will coordinate the relocation of any staff members, as necessary.  Once this phase is completed, all systems will return to full operations.  Facilities will continue to monitor progress; we apologize for any inconvenience. 

    Update: May 7, 2024 

    Ongoing Facilities projects include:

    • Loop Road: We are in the final stages of completing the project.  The contractors are installing the final security hardware and should completed by May 30th.
    • Security Kiosk Project: The roof installation is scheduled for May 20, followed by the installation of the security windows. We anticipate, depending on the weather conditions, the project will be completed by early June.
    • The replacement of the Cooling Towers of the Main Building continues. Both towers are in place and testing/commissioning has started.  We anticipate project completion by early June.
    • Bard Building Demolition is 67 % completed. The demolition of the building is on schedule and will be completed by September 24, 2024, once again weather-dependent.
    • The Cooling Tower Replacement Project in the Nursing building is complete and operational.
    • The Elevator Project has started. Work has begun on the Life Sciences building's elevator; Its replacement will take approximately nine weeks. A second team will begin next week with the demolition of the West Pavilion elevator. The entire project will be completed by January 02, 2025.
    • The exterior door and Storefront door replacement project is underway. This includes replacing two storefront doors in the Life Science Building, all exterior doors in the Nursing Building, two exterior doors in the Physical Education Building, one door in the Fine Arts Wing, two doors in the Main Building and two doors in the Student Services Wing. We anticipate this project will be completed the last week of June.
    • The repair of the concrete columns in the Physical Education Building is 85% complete. This week the painting of the building's cornice and the final concrete coating on the rear columns of the building started. We anticipate completing this project by the end of June.

    Update: March 20, 2024 

    Great news!  The restroom renovations in the Mini Conference Center and the Physical Education Center are complete and available for use.  We truly appreciate your patience with our efforts to improve our building infrastructures.  The next phase of restroom renovations includes the Main Building and the Life Sciences Building.  We are working with the Department of General Services to complete the design phase and will have renovation dates within the next 30 days.

    Update: March 11, 2024 

    The contractor replacing the cooling tower in the Main Building will insert the new tower on the roof tomorrow starting at 8am. We anticipate completion by noon.  We will restrict traffic in the vicinity of the loading dock for safety reasons. Those who park in Cabinet spaces and Lots D and E, will access the parking areas by entering the Campus and immediately making a left-hand turn onto Loop Road by the Nursing Building.  Public Safety will be onsite to assist. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we upgrade our heating and air conditioning systems.

    Update: March 8, 2024

  • Update: February 18, 2024     

    On behalf of Dr McCurdy, please see the below listed updates.

    1. The Loop Road Improvement project is ongoing with completion scheduled for August 2023. The contractor is 67% complete with the piles and the new retaining wall necessary for the final phase of construction of the new road.
      1. During Spring Break, starting April 3rd, the Loop Road contractor will began to replace the metal steps leading into the Main Building from parking lot D, with concrete steps. During this time, faculty and staff should use the new ADA entrance on the same side of the building. The new concrete steps will be completed with temporary hand railings by April 17th, permanent railings are scheduled for installation May 14th.
    2. The South Pavilion Window Caulking project is underway. The contractors have completed sealing all windows and are now finalizing the main control joints on the building to keep water out of the building. The work will be complete by the end of March.
    3. The West Pavilion Chiller installation project began Friday, March 10th.  The new units and new pumps are now set. Next week, the contractor will began connecting the electric and plumbing to each unit. The project will be completed by the end of March.
    4. The West Pavilion Fire Alarm installation in ongoing. The project is scheduled to be completed by May 17th, 2023, and will enhance safety for all who utilize the facility.
    5. The Life Science Building Skylight Repairs started Monday, March 13th and will be completed by April 13th. During this time, the glass stair tower should only be used for emergency egress only.
    6. We discovered a water leak between the Facilities Building and the PE Center.  Contractors started work Monday, March 13th to identify the source of the leak and repair all damaged pipes.  The source of the leak was found and repaired on Wednesday, March 15th.  The project is finished with the completion of the site cleanup.  Thank you for your patience!
    7. New carpet has been delivered to suite 260 in the Main Building. Our facilities team immediately stated installation Friday, March 17th with anticipated completion in the next week or two.
    8. Facilities has completed flooring repairs, wall repairs, new painting, ceiling repairs, and stripping and waxing of the floors in preparation for the dental CODA site visit on March 23rd. Tint in was installed Friday, March 17th on the windows in the LSB Conference Room 311 as requested.  
    9. The Bard Building Demolition project is bidding for construction next week through the Department of General Services. This is a very significant event in our efforts to demolish the building and enhance our footprint downtown.   
    10. The Kickoff Meeting for the complete Inventory of all BCCC equipment and supplies, is scheduled for the week of March 27th. This project will include a wall-to-wall inventory of all tagged equipment and furniture assets College-wide. This is an important step in complying with state audit findings. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and consideration as the survey team will visit and inventory all campus spaces.  We will provide a detailed schedule prior to the work being started to inform all when the team will be in your area.  We do not anticipate a disruption of services to our school community.

    On behalf of Dr McCurdy, please see the listed updates below.

  • Update: January 28, 2024  

    Ongoing projects include:

    • Loop Road and Entrance Improvement
      Contractors have installed speed humps and delineators near the Life Science building exit.
    • Main Building Cooling Towers replacement
      Installation of piping components continues on the new cooling tower for a complete connection. Installation of piping in mechanical room and rooftop to be completed on 02/16/24.
    • Bard Demolition
      • Anticipated Completion Date 07/13/2024
      • Percentage of job Completed 54%
      • 39 calendar day schedule extension proposed to address findings of additional asbestos in the exterior building paneling.
      • DGS coordinates with Multi-Vista. They will investigate the best location to install the surveillance camera.
      • Berg Corp. is expecting approval of permit from Baltimore City on same day or shortly after asbestos abatement completion.
    • Nursing Cooling Towers Replacement
      • The contractor BMC began work on coating the steel that would support the cooling tower.
      • The contractor will begin cooling tower installation the second week of March.
    • Fine Arts/Gym Restrooms Renovations
      The bathrooms are 99% complete and finishing up the to-do list and final cleaning. It will be ready for 02/23/24
    • Physical Education Center Concrete Columns Repair
      • BC crews were in the process of mobilizing and preparing the site for delivery and placement of concrete at the grade beam underpinning footings at struts A3, A6, A7, A8, and A9 where steel shoring has been installed.
      • Geotech confirmed that soil support is over 1500 PSF at the foundation locations.
      • Steel shoring struts were installed at concrete struts A2, A3, A4, and A5, with brackets and grout packs at the concrete columns at the exterior wall of the building.
    • Exterior Door Replacement
      Replacement of the Main doors of the Life Sciences, Physical Education, Student Services and Nursing buildings will begin on 02/26/24 and will be completed by 03/26/24.
    • Elevator replacements
      Brawner Builders will begin work in March 2024 with the South Pavilion elevators and the Physical Education elevator. The project has a completion date of 11/19/24
    • Life Sciences Fire Alarm Replacement
      A proposal has been requested to repair the fire doors in the lobbies. We are awaiting a response from the manufacturer, Won-Door
    • West Pavilion Fire Alarm Replacement
      The new fire alarm panel has been installed and is pending activation.
    • Fire Alarm monitoring System
      A new fire monitoring system is being installed in each building that will be activated on 02/23/24.

     Project updates:  

    • The Loop Road project continues with the installation of the new HVAC system in the Physical Education Center and the installation of the new stairs allowing access to the campus from Liberty Heights Avenue.  We continue to stress caution as you approach construction areas and as you enter and exit the campus.   Monday through Wednesday 11/7 – 11/9, the PE Center’s duct work is scheduled for cleaning.  This is the first step with ensuring the new HVAC equipment is ready to place in service. 

    • The Life Science Building Fire Alarm System replacement began October 6th and will be completed by the end of the year. The project is on schedule with the installation of new upgraded equipment on all floors.  The next phase is the installation of conduit and panels. 

    • The South Pavilion renovations continue with minor construction, painting, and cleaning to prepare for the reopening of our Workforce Development Center.   

    • As a result of the ongoing construction of Loop Road, parking permits are not required for students, faculty, and staff.  All parking areas are opened on a first come, first-serve base, with additional parking available at the Palladium, located across the street from the main entrance of the campus.  Vehicles that are illegally parked will be ticketed.  Public Safety will enforce parking in disability spaces without an approved parking permit, parking in fire lanes, restricted areas, and no parking zones.  This includes grassy areas, fields, or driveways.  

    • As we transition to daylight savings time, our Public Safety Department is prepared to provide escorts to students, faculty, and staff.  Please contact the command center at 410-462-7700 for service.

McCurdy, I would like to provide an update on current projects, in progress, on campus.  Please remain vigilant, safety is paramount due to large equipment and vehicles transitioning to and from construction areas.  Signs are posted for everyone’s safety, please refrain from entering any construction area/zone. 

    Please note the following shredding schedule through the end of the year: 

    • Liberty Campus: 10/25, 11/08, 11/22, 12/06, 12/2
    • West Pavilion, RPC, BioPark, Harbor:  11/08, 12/06, 12/20.  Please place all shredding bins in the hallway; the facilities team will ensure materials are shredded and bins returned.  If you need a bin, please place a ticket in asset essentials and one will be delivered. 

     Project updates: 

    • The Loop Road project continues with the framing and grading of the new road, the installation of the new HVAC system in the Physical Education Center, and the installation of the new stairs allowing access to the campus from Liberty Heights Avenue.  While the HVAC work continues, the PE Center has reopened to support our basketball season, and academic classes. Our Facilities team will continue to monitor the environment ensuring all safety mandates are met.   We continue to stress caution as you approach construction areas and enter and exit the campus.   Please slow down!! 

    • Next Friday, October 21, the contractor will begin replacing the steps in the Fine Arts Wing and drilling in three outside locations to support the installation of new light poles. This will not impact traffic, however we will need to close the entrance to the Fine Arts Wing from Friday, October 21, 2022, until Tuesday October 25, 2022.

    • Camera and access control installations are ongoing throughout our campus locations. Eighty-five percent of the cameras have been installed. We anticipate interior door replacement will start in the next two weeks.

    • The Life Science Building Fire Alarm System replacement began October 6th and will be completed by the end of the year. The penthouse and 4th floor devices have been installed; beginning next week, the contractor will complete the installation of equipment and devices on the 3rd floor during the evening hours to limit disruption of college operations. 

    • Contractors completed work in the Student Center repairing moisture issues with the HAVC system.   Additional insulation will be installed as a precaution.  

    • As a result of the ongoing construction of Loop Road, parking permits are not required for students, faculty, and staff.  All parking areas are opened on a first come, first-serve base, with additional parking available at the Palladium, located across the street from the main entrance to the campus.  Vehicles that are illegally parked will be ticketed.  Public Safety will enforce parking in disability spots without an approved parking permit, parking in fire lanes restricted areas, and no parking zones.  This includes grassy areas, fields, and driveways.

  • Update: August 28, 2022

    On behalf of Dr. Debra L. McCurdy, I would like to provide an update on current projects, in progress, on campus.  Please remain vigilant, safety is paramount due to large equipment and vehicles transitioning to and from construction areas.  Signs are posted for everyone’s safety, please refrain from entering any construction area/zone.

    Project updates: 

    • Repairs to the ceiling in the Fine Arts auditorium started Saturday and will continue until September 1st.  This is the final phase of the roof repair.
    • The former game room, now “Student Center”,  is complete and opened to students.  The design and renovations were completed by our BCCC facilities department.  Please stop in, a magnificent upgrade in comparison to the former facility.
    • The Loop Road project continues with the installation of the new HVAC system in the Physical Education Center and the installation of the new stairs allowing access to the campus from Liberty Heights Avenue.  We continue to stress caution as you enter and exit the campus.  The contractor is in the process of moving heavy construction equipment in the vicinity of lot E, to facilitate the drilling necessary to complete the retaining wall. This is the final phase that will allow for the completion of the road behind the PE Center.
    • The Life Science Building Greenhouse floor coatings project is 95% complete. 
    • Camera and access control installations are ongoing throughout our campus locations. Eighty five percent of the cameras have been installed and the installation of new doors and swipes will start within the next two weeks.  
    • As a result of the ongoing construction of Loop Road, parking permits are not required for students, faculty, and staff.  All parking areas are opened on a first come, first serve bases, with additional parking available at the Palladium, located across the street from the main entrance to the campus.  Vehicles that are illegally parked will be ticketed.  Public Safety will enforce parking in disability spots without an approved parking permit, parking in fire lanes restricted areas and no parking zones.  This includes grassy areas, fields, or driveways.  Please do not park on the new road, Public Safety Officers are posted in lot E to assist during peak hours.

  • Update: July 14, 2022

    On behalf of Dr. Debra L.     Project updates: 

    • The new bottle-filler water fountains passed the water quality test.  The fountains have been certified, meaning they are free from contaminants and obstructions.  All fountains with a green indicator light are ready for use.  There are several fountains with a red indicator light. These fountains are not ready for use pending the installation of filters.  New filters are scheduled for delivery early next week.
    • Ductwork cleaning in the main building has started.  Contractors, supervised and escorted by the facilities team, will spend the next two weeks ensuring all ductwork is cleaned, enhancing the quality of air circulating throughout our environment.  This project is scheduled during the evenings, from 6pm – 2am, to ensure there is no disruption to college operations.
    • The Loop Road project continues with the installation of the new HVAC system in the Physical Education Center, and the installation of new stairs allowing access to the Campus from Liberty Heights Avenue.
    • Repairs to the exterior lighting at the South and West Pavilion parking lots continue. 
    • The South Pavilion roof replacement is completed, and the installment of the HVAC system is underway.   We anticipate the project will be completed in the next two weeks. Interior renovations, carpet installation, and rubber stairwell flooring continues.  
    • The Life Science Building Greenhouse floor and wall coatings project continues and is 30% complete due to delays with shipping materials. 
    • Camera and access control installations are ongoing campus wide. 65% of the cameras have been installed.

    Project updates:

    • The Loop Road project continues with the installation of stormwater piping near Lot E, the construction of a retaining wall necessary for the new road behind the Physical Education Center, and the installation of a concrete border for the BCCC shrubs at the new exit.
    • The interior accessibility upgrade, MNB, Fine Arts entrance is 95% complete.
    • The ADA water fountain replacement continues: the Nursing Building 2nd and 3rd floors are complete and ready for use, the other fountains are awaiting water testing results to ensure the water is safe and free of contaminants.  We plan to have all water fountains opened soon.
    • The South Pavilion roof and HVAC repairs are 95% complete, with new carpet and interior renovations ongoing.
    • The Life Science Building Greenhouse floor and wall coatings continue.
    • Camera and access control installations are ongoing campus-wide.
