What is the Arts and Sciences Transfer Program?

The Arts and Sciences Transfer Program at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) is designed for students wishing to obtain a strong liberal arts foundation before transferring to a bachelor’s degree program, with the option to continue on to graduate or professional studies. Students interested in focusing on the arts can choose from associate of arts degree, with a concentration in art, music or theatre.
What Careers Use These Skills?

Students can explore a variety of careers within the creative arts, including actor, musician, singer, sculptor, illustrator, painter and many more. Earning potential in these professions can vary greatly depending on the individual’s level of experience and exposure.
- Beginning actors can earn a starting wage of $10 an hour; musicians earn $14 an hour.
- Fine artists start out on a salary of $21,525 and earn a median income of $32,450.
- Beginning actors can earn a starting wage of $10 an hour; musicians earn $14 an hour.

As students progress through the program, they receive assistance with the transfer process
What Courses Will I Take?

Always check with an advisor to determine what courses to take. All BCCC students must meet the College’s computer literacy requirement in order to receive a degree or certificate. All students are required to complete the PRE 100 course within the first six credits. PRE 100 is an academic achievement preparation course earning one credit.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
Art
- Describe the relationship between the historical, social and cultural contexts of the arts and the works of artists in societies past and present.
- Analyze the roles and functions of the visual arts in expressing ideas, events and universal themes within and among cultural groups.
- Explain and demonstrate how artworks reflect and influence beliefs, customs, and values of a society.
- Classify artworks by selected factors, including subject matter, style and technique.
- Describe, analyze, interpret, and evaluate principles of design in artistic works.
- Create visual images or forms from observation, memory and imagination to convey ideas and personal meaning with attention to point of view, detail and spatial relationships.
- Demonstrate ways the elements of art and principles of design are manipulated to communicate ideas.
- Plan personal artworks inspired by universal themes. • Select and use tools, materials, processes and techniques to produce creative works.
- Explain reasons for selecting specific design concepts to convey meaning in planning personal artworks.
- Analyze artwork using established criteria.
- Construct and apply different sets of criteria for making judgments about artwork.
- Describe the relationship between the historical, social and cultural contexts of the arts and the works of artists in societies past and present.
