What is the Accounting Program?
The Accounting Program at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) prepares graduates for employment as junior accountants, accounting clerks or management trainees. The accounting certificate is designed for individuals seeking entry-level employment in bookkeeping or accounting. The accounting degree program is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
What Will I Learn?
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Use the steps in the accounting cycle and prepare financial statements from the general ledger
- (i.e., balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, owner equity statement).
- Produce financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the International Financial and Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Analyze, interpret and summarize financial statements and apply managerial accounting in decision making, as defined by the Institute for Managerial Accountants (IMA), American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and scholarly research.

What Careers Use These Skills?
Graduates can serve as bookkeeping, auditing and accounting clerks, general or cost accountants or entry level auditors. Those who go on to receive a bachelor’s degree can find employment as accountants or auditors. Many choose to take certification exams leading to additional credentials, such as the Certified Public Accountant exam.

What Courses Will I Take?
Always check with an advisor to determine what courses to take. All BCCC students must meet the College’s computer literacy requirement in order to receive a degree or certificate. All students are required to complete the PRE 100 course within the first six credits. PRE 100 is an academic achievement preparation course earning one credit.
